I'm a Harvard student with a baby. Is there a Harvard library where I can bring my baby along?

Official admission policies for children vary by library, so it's best to contact any library in which you may be interested directly to find out their specific policy. Library contact information and some visitor access info is listed on the Library Locations & Hours page.

If the library that interests you doesn't allow children, or you need material retrieved from the stacks, we may have alternative options for you.

• When Pickup appears as an option in a HOLLIS record under Get It, you can usually have the material brought to the Harvard Library circulation desk of your choice.

• When Scan & Deliver appears as an option, you can have an article or book chapter (not an entire work) scanned and sent to you. See Scan & Deliver for more information.

What about other resources in the library or on campus? Another resource for new mothers within Harvard that you should know about is a set of Lactation Rooms across the university available for breastfeeding or breastpumping. There is a lactation room in Widener Library.

There are a number of campus-wide resources for new parents. For example, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Student-Parents Organization, who may be able to provide you with good advice based on their experiences at Harvard. Faculty and staff should visit the HARVie site for Child Care.

Nearby: The Cambridge Public Library, located near campus on Cambridge St, is another option for parents seeking a good, comfortable place to work while accompanied by their children. They have a room designed for use by families of young children:  http://www.cambridgema.gov/cpl/Kids.aspx.

Local towns such as Cambridge have resources for children as well, like this one: http://www.cambridgema.gov/DHSP/programsforfamilies/centerforfamilies.aspx
