How can I search HOLLIS for a specific library collection or subcollection?

Apply the Library + Location filter

Library + Location is one of the last options in the filter menu. It is collapsed by default: expand it to display up to about 30 location options, in alphabetical order. For best results, first select an option from the Library filter, and then select an option from the Library + Location filter. (Library is the second option in the filter menu, after “Resource Type.”)

Pro tip: construct your search along broad terms to catch as many items as possible in a specific location. For example, search by language code, subject, or place of publication.

Search by holding call number

Many library sub-collections are defined by a specific call number class. To find out whether the collection you’re interested in is defined in this way, write to Ask a Librarian.

Browse by call number

Use a call number browse to explore items in shelf order. It’s a great way to find related materials that might be missing from your search, or to explore collections that are not open for browsing.

Library + Location codes

This feature, found under the Advanced Search box, allows you to access the full list of items under a specific location code. It is intended for library staff use. It is not recommended for researchers, as there are many limitations on its functionality. For example, most library sub-collections are broken up into multiple location codes, and the Library + Location codes feature allows you to access only one code at a time. Additionally, this search is slow to load, and is not designed to be combined with search keywords.
