How can I view CD-ROMs in Lamont? Is there someone who can help me?
Often, older CD-ROMs require the user to launch a file specific to a given operating system in order to access the content. There are legacy machines on Lamont's Level B which have older, now-unsupported versions of the Windows operating system. These older CD-ROMs should work in those machines.
When consulting government documents on CD-ROM, the Data and Government Documents Information folks are happy to help with use of the legacy machines.
For other materials, and if the Data and GovDocs team is unavailable, the Lamont MediaLab staff should be able to help.
Please note that while staff is always ready to help when they're able, they are often called away from their offices. It may be helpful to contact them in advance when you know you'll be consulting a CD-ROM.
