Are there any American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (ABCFM) papers about the Cherokee or Maumee missions?

Yes, there are many documents in those papers pertaining to the Cherokee (Trail of Tears) and Maumee missions and their schools. Please see Missions to Native Americans in the United States series of the ABCFM finding aid. 

Many of the papers of the ABCFM have been published in microfilm format, and we ask readers to use the microfilm copies whenever possible. You can access the reel listing here. Harvard faculty, students, staff, and proxies can access this material in Lamont. Researchers who are not Harvard affiliates can request the microfilm for use in Widener Library Reading Room 150.

There is a useful published guide to Cherokee documents that has many index entries relating to the mission schools: Kutsche, Paul. A Guide to Cherokee Documents in the Northeastern United States (Metuchen, N.J.: Scarecrow Press, 1986). This guide is available to consult in our Reading Room.
